Biographie
Né en 1953 en Australie.
Après avoir plus ou moins abandonné la photographie comme pratique singulière au début des années 90, Chris Fortescue se met à réaliser des installations générant des interactions entre les objets, les images et les sons. Il a cofondé la South Gallery avec Simon Barney en 1998.
A la fin de la décennie, il s’installe à Vienne où son intérêt pour la photographie sera ranimé grâce aux procédés numériques et à internet.
Durant cette période, il travailla également avec le collectif TimesUp basé à Linz sur leur projet intitulé « Anchortronic project », créant ainsi des animations de textes en ligne et des installations sonores. Il collabora également avec d’autres artistes en tant que concepteur sonore et consultant web.
Il a effectué une thèse de doctorat à Australian National University en 2009.
Il vit actuellement à Vienne.
Ses oeuvres se trouvent dans les collections d'Art Gallery de NSW, National Gallery of Victoria etthe National Gallery of Australia.
